The Legality Of Internet Casinos In The United States

As far as the subject of the legality of internet gambling casinos goes, things are currently a little bit sticky right now. There are laws in place that prohibit gambling on online casinos, but there are also a few legal loopholes that allow people to place wagers.
In the period from 2005 to 2006, 7 states in the country passed laws that make internet gambling illegal. These states are Illinois, Washington, Louisiana, Oregon, Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Before these laws were passed, the whole gambling issue was covered by the Federal Wire Act of 1961, which dates back to half a century. The law states that American citizens are not allowed to use phone lines for placing bets. Under this law, it would be illegal then for somebody in Chicago to place a bet in Las Vegas over the phone. He would instead have to actually go to Las Vegas and place his bet there.
The thing is, this law was passed before the existence of the Internet–and Internet casinos–which means that placing bets online over the internet remains to be a legally gray area and many Americans use this legal loophole to place wagers online.
In any case, this is the reason why most Internet casinos and their servers are located in countries such as Curacao, Antigua, Dominican Republic and a few others.
